Boxing Results: Jaime Munguia is stopped by Bruno Sauras!
Former WBO middleweight champion Jaime Munguia (44-2, 35 KOs) was upset and was stopped by EBU Silver middleweight champion Bruno Sauras (26-0-2, 5 KOs) at 2:36 of round six in a round Scheduled for 10 rounds. Saturday night fight in Tijuana, Mexico.
In the first round, Munguia had a slight advantage as they both landed punches after the bell, so referee Juan José Ramírez had to step in and stop the bout.
In the second round, one minute later, Munguia landed a left hook to the chin and Soras was down for the first time in his career for an 8 count from referee Ramirez. He managed to reach the bell. In the third round, Munguia had Surace on the defense the entire round, mostly against the ropes, and was lucky to survive until the bell.
In the fourth round, it was all Munguia. With half a minute remaining, Surace landed his best punch of the fight with an overhand right to the chin that rocked Munguia. In the sixth round, Munguia had Surace against the ropes several times but was unable to string together enough punches to finish Surace.
In the sixth round, Munguia landed a pair of rights to the chin, with Sauras facing the ropes. Soras responded with a right to the chin, and Munguia fell to his back, barely beating the count at nine, but referee Ramirez had seen enough and wisely stopped. It took more than ten minutes for Ring announcer Jimmy Lennon Jr. to make the announcement. For stoppage time of more than ten minutes.

Junior middleweight Jorge “Chino” Garcia, 32-4 (26), defeated Kudratillo “The Punisher” Abdukakhorov, 20-4 (12), No. 158¼, of Andijan, Uzbekistan, over 10 rounds.
In the first three rounds, Abdukakhorov outpointed Garcia. In the fifth round, Garcia was landing the top punches, backing up Abdukakhorov.
In the sixth round, Abdukakhorov continued to switch to southpaw and return to orthodox.
In the ninth round, Garcia finished the stronger of the two. In the tenth and final round, Garcia injured Abdukakhorov in the final seconds.
Results 97-92, 99-90 twice.
In the co-main event, super bantamweight Alain Picasso, 31-0-1 (17), knocked out Southpaw Jehisun Coelho, 13-3-1 (11) at 1:55 of the third of the scheduled 10 rounds.
For the first two rounds, it was all Picasso. In the third round, a left hook to the body dropped Coelho for a full count by referee Juan José Ramírez.
Super Bantamweight Sebastian “Logan” Hernandez Reyes, 18-0 (17), stopped Sergio “El Canala” Sosa, 14-5-3 (3) at 2:59 of the seventh of a scheduled ten-round bout.
In the first three rounds, Sosa worked Hernandez’s body. In the fourth round, Sosa was facing Hernandez against the ropes for most of the round. In the fifth round, Hernandez came back holding his own.
In the seventh round, Hernandez left Sosa defenseless with a barrage of punches, prompting referee Edgar Lopez to stop.
WBC Junior Continental champion Cristian “El Belon” Islas, 11-3-1 (7), lost to southpaw Juan Anacona, 13-1 (6), over eight rounds.
Anacona had the advantage in the first three rounds. In the fifth round, Islas had his best round, despite having a bloody nose.
In the final seconds of the sixth round, the action came to a halt when Islas complained that his right eye was pinched by Anacona’s left eye. In the seventh round, Islas’ nose was bleeding and his right eye was partially closed. In the eighth and final round, Anacona had Islas in a defense that was supported.
