Donald Trump calls a wave of air strikes on the Yemeni Houthis

The United States launched a “decisive and strong” wave of air strikes on the Houthi rebels in Yemen, as President Donald Trump said, citing the armed group attacks on shipping in the Red Sea as a reason.

Trump wrote on the truth platform in fact, adding that “piracy and violence” cost “billions of dollars”: “funded by Iran, the Houthi thugs launched the missiles on the American plane, targeting our forces and allies.

The Houthi -running Ministry of Health said that at least 15 people were killed and nine others were injured in the strikes.

The group – which started targeting the shipment in response to the Israeli war – Hamas in Gaza – said that its forces would respond to the American strikes.

The Houthis reported a series of explosions on Saturday evening in SANA and in the northern province of Sada – the stronghold of the rebels on the border with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The group of Iranian -backed rebels, whose enemy considers Israel, controls SANA and the northwest of Yemen, but it is not the country of the country known internationally.

The images that are not verified show columns of black smoke in the SANA airport area – which include a military facility.

In a statement, the Houthis blamed the United States and the United Kingdom in the “bad” aggression targeting the residential areas of the Yemeni capital, although it is understood that the UK did not participate in the American strikes on Saturday against the Houthi goals, but it provided routine support to the fuel to the United States.

Trump said these attacks “will not be tolerated.”

He added: “We will use the overwhelming deadly power until we achieved our goal.”

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragcha said that the US government “has no authority or business, dictates Iranian foreign policy.”

“The final support for Israeli genocide and terrorism,” was published on Sunday. “Stop killing the Yemeni people.”

The Houthis said they are acting to support the Palestinians in the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, and they often claimed that they are targeting ships associated with Israel, the United States or the United Kingdom.

Since November 2023, the Houthis have targeted dozens of commercial ships with missiles, drones and small boat attacks in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. They drowned two ships, seized a third, and killed four crew members.

The group has not been deterred due to the deployment of western warships to protect commercial ships, or through multiple rounds of US and British air strikes on their military targets.

Israel has also carried out air strikes against the Houthis since July in response to 400 missiles and drones that the Israeli army said was launched in the country from Yemen, most of which were dropped.

The major shipping companies have been forced to stop using the Red Sea – through which approximately 15 % of the sea transfers by the sea – and the use of a much longer road around South Africa instead.

Trump said that it has passed more than a year since the ship that was distinguished in the United States sailed safely through the Suez Canal – which was performed by the Red Sea to – and four months since an American warship has passed through the water body between East Africa and the Arabian Peninsula.

Suez is the fastest sea road between Asia and Europe, and it is especially important in the transportation of LNG oil and natural gas (LNG).

In addressing the Houthis directly, Trump wrote that if they did not stop, “Hell will rain on you like anything you haven’t seen before.”

But the Houthis were unusual in their response, saying that the aggression would not increase their support for the Palestinians.

“This aggression will not go without response and that the Yemeni armed forces are ready to answer the escalation with more escalation,” the group said.

Meanwhile, US Defense Secretary, Beit Higseth, said that the Houthi “donor”, Iran, was “in a state of notice.”

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also discussed military deterrence against the Houthis when he spoke with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Saturday.

“The ongoing Houthi attacks on the American military and commercial shipping ships in the Red Sea will not be tolerated.”

The Houthis launched 190 attacks in the Red Sea between November 2023 and October 2024, according to the American Congress.

Previously, the United Kingdom and the United States joint navy conducted Air strikes against the group. Israel has also targeted sites linked to pollution in separate strikes.

Trump urged Iran to stop supporting the Houthis, warning that Washington will hold Tehran accountable “completely responsibility, and we will not be nice to that.”
