French prisons that struck a wave of overnight attacks

The Minister of Justice said that many prisons in France were injured by a wave of attacks overnight.

Galled Darmanin said that prisons faced “intimidation attempts” ranging from burning the car to automatic weapons fire.

La Parisien reported that vehicles caught fire in many car parks, while the prison in Toulon was targeting gunshots from an automatic weapon.

The newspaper lists six institutions as targeted: in Tolon, AIX-EN-PROVINCE, Marseille, Valence, NîMES, Luynes, VillepInte, and Nanterre.

In a post on X, Darmanin said he was traveling to Toulon to provide his support to affected officers.

Without direct blame for the attacks, he said that the French government “faces the problem of drug smuggling” and takes measures that “disrupt” criminal networks deeply.

The prison goalkeeper, Fo JUSTICE, expressed his “deep concern and anger” after the “very dangerous” attacks overnight.

The Federation has published updates from many attacks on X, including lead holes in Toulon prison windows, and burned vehicles in other parking lots.

He called for urgent government measures to protect prison staff.
