Holocaust Day: Auschwitz’s survivors are leading celebrations

Holocaust’s survivors have been celebrating 80 years since the liberation of the Nazi detention camp, Auschwitz, in Poland.

Topa Friedman, 86, Leon Winterop, 99, Marian Torsky, 98, and Ganena Iwana, 94, are all survivors who shared their memories of Auschwitz at Monday’s party against world leaders.

People also walked to the “death wall” and left the candles to push their respect outside the 11th block in Auschwitz, where thousands of prisoners were executed by SS officers.

About 1.1 million people, most of them Jews, were killed in the Auschwitz complex, making it the largest group execution of humans ever registered.
