Microsoft invests $3 billion in cloud and artificial intelligence in India

Microsoft plans to invest $3 billion to expand its AI capabilities and Azure cloud services in India, as well as upskill an additional 10 million people in the country, the software giant’s CEO said on Tuesday.

The software giant, which is among the top cloud and artificial intelligence service providers in India, already sees many of its clients in the South Asian market using its latest technology to bring efficiency to their businesses, Satya Nadella said at an event in Bengaluru.

Some of its clients in India include Infosys, Air India, Meesho, Tech Mahindra, Federal Bank, Apollo, MakeMyTrip, HCL Tech, Manipal, Icertis, and InMobi. IT company Persistent used Microsoft 365 Copilot’s “contract assistance” to reduce negotiation time by 70%, Nadella said.

India is a key overseas market for US tech giants who have spent tens of billions building and expanding their businesses in the world’s most populous country over the past two decades as they work with companies to serve hundreds of millions of users. Amazon said in 2023 it It plans to invest $12.7 billion operations in India by 2030.

For example, more than 17 million developers in India use Microsoft’s Github platform. Nadella said the company will train 10 million people in India by 2030.
