Ryan Garcia suffered a wrist injury while preparing for his December 30 exhibition fight against Rukia Anbu, forcing the match to be postponed. The event promoted by FANMIO and RIZIN will be rescheduled in the first half of 2025.
Dr. Steven Chen of Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles confirmed Garcia’s wrist injury. He will need several weeks without a fight before he can return to action and resume preparation for his eight-round exhibition against Anpo.
Official statement from Garcia
Ryan is using his matchup against the lanky 6’0″ Anbu to stay sharp and continue making money while serving a one-year suspension issued by the New York State Athletic Commission for taking a banned substance earlier this year. .
The comment came at the worst possible time for Garcia, 26. It prevents him from capitalizing on his best 12-round majority victory over Devin Haney on April 20 in Brooklyn, New York.
“I’ve been eagerly preparing for my upcoming exhibition fight in Japan, and I’ve been training hard in Dallas over the past few weeks,” Ryan Garcia said. He added: “Unfortunately, I suffered a hand injury during training and returned to Los Angeles to see the doctor, who advised me to postpone my exhibition until December 30.”
Garcia wants this fight with Anpo to give him more experience, keep him sharp, and get paid during his year out of the ring. It’s a matchup with some risk because Anpo can hit, and he will look to capitalize on Kingry’s weaknesses in his loss to Gervonta Davis.
Anbu had never been in a boxing match with a fighter of Ryan’s talent yet. His three-round showing against 45-year-old Manny Pacquiao last summer involved an older fighter in a short bout. It will be difficult for him to handle Ryan’s strength and speed.
