Ryan Garcia vs. Isaac Cruz and Devin Haney vs. Jose Ramirez: Double PPV showdown in May!
Ryan Garcia vs. Isaac Cruz and Devin Haney vs. Jose Ramirez will fight in a doubleheader on DAZN PPV in May in Times Square, New York. This will be one of Turki Al-Sheikh’s huge cards and will set the table for the October match between Ryan and Hani in Riyadh.
Double header in May
Kingry (24-1, 20 KOs) got an easier fight against former WBA light welterweight champion ‘Pitbull’ Cruz (26-3-1, 18 KOs). While it’s not an easy fight for Ryan, it’s less risky than the one Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) is dealing with, as he faces the former WBC and WBO 140-pound champion. Jose Ramirez (29-2, 18 KOs).
Devin is facing a really good fighter at the 2012 Olympian, Ramirez, 32, and there is a good chance he will lose to this guy because he can strike and has excellent technical skills. However, Turki likely won’t care if Haney gets this opportunity because he has a different philosophy about sticking with fighters who are losing. Fans will still want to see Garcia and Haney rematch in October, regardless of what happens with Haney vs. Ramirez.
“Sources have revealed plans for a May concert at TIMES SQUARE 🗽🍎 and outdoors, including Ryan Garcia-Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz and Devin Haney-Jose Ramirez, as part of the launch of SNK and Ring’s Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves,” Salvador said. Rodriguez: “#ESPNKnockOut Magazine.” X.
Fan reactions on social media are mixed about these two fights. Most would rather see Ryan fight Haney right away rather than make adjustments first. But in Haney’s case, he has to re-establish his credibility first by beating a top-tier 140-year-old fighter because he was booed so hard by Ryan.
It’s a one-sided battle. There is no point in rematching except for commercial purposes. If Haney can prove himself against Jose Ramirez, he will show boxing fans that Garcia didn’t ruin his chin, and that he deserves a rematch.
I don’t see Haney winning this fight against Ramirez because this guy is not Regis Progress. He actually has talent and will have him under the gun from the opening round, going after the chin with Swiss cheese, looking to finish what Ryan started.
If Turk is still good for the Haney-Garcia fight with Devin getting destroyed by Ramirez, so be it. Fans still want to see the rematch for entertainment purposes, but oddsmakers strongly prefer it to be Ryan.
