A chase of the suspect in the legislative attacks in the current Minnesota state
The search for the suspect in deadly attacks on legislators in Minnesota state continued on Sunday, as the police extended the search on the state lines to the nearby South Dakota.
The actress of Minnesota Melissa Hortmann and her husband Mark was shot and killed in their home early on Saturday morning.
The other legislator, Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Evit, were also shot several times.
Police is searching for Vans Luther Powlter, 57, who say he has impersonated a police officer while carrying out the attacks. The federal authorities have announced a $ 50,000 reward for information.
Both legislators belong to the Democratic Party of Minnesota – the farm and the championship, which belongs to the National Democratic Party.
Senator Hoffman and his wife underwent surgery on Saturday, and the governor of Minnesota Tim Walz said that he was “optimistic with caution because they will survive in this assassination attempt.”
“It is clear that this is political motives,” American Senator Amy Kloposhr, a democratic representing Minnesota, told the NBC News on Sunday morning.
The authorities said that they had recovered a targeted list of a vehicle used by the suspect, which was reported to contain the names of many democratic politicians who supported abortion, as well as abortion providers. Tina Smith’s office, the other American Senator in Minnesota, confirmed to BBC that it was on the list.
The FBI added to their wanted list, and issued a $ 50,000 reward for information that leads to his arrest and conviction.
“It is not a matter of any of us,” Kloposhr said. “We think about her family today.”
“I hope that everyone in the political world will know this woman, like us, we know her in Minnesota. It is loved by Democrats and Republicans,” said Kloposh.
President Donald Trump realizes the situation, but it was not clear whether he would communicate with the leadership of the state about the attack.
The ruler, Walz, who is a democratic, was a candidate for the presidency, Kamala Harris, his companion in the 2024 elections.
Despite the frantic search throughout the region, Brooklyn Park, where MP Hortmann lived, was still silent on Sunday morning as the neighborhood was with the deadly attack.
A police car stood out of Hortman’s house and a bright yellow warning surrounded by the house, which is now an active crime scene.
Tahha Abuyson, who lives through the street, said that he and his wife have known Hortmann for more than 20 years.
“They were very nice neighbors in a very calm neighborhood,” he told the BBC. “You don’t see the police activity in this neighborhood. We were very shocked.”
Two close residents who did not want to name said that the suburban community was reeling with the spread of news about the attack.
“We all advised text messages back and forth.”
She and her husband described how they received the annual Christmas card from Hortanz – and narrated how the actor Hortmann contacted local Republican politicians.
“What a great loss for Minnesota,” she said.
