Apple may be working on a smart doorbell
There have been a lot of reports in recent months about Apple’s efforts to expand its presence in customers’ homes with products in development such as Wall-mounted smart home hub. according to New report in BloombergThis strategy could also include a smart doorbell.
This doorbell will use Apple’s FaceID technology to scan people’s faces as they approach the door, then wirelessly connect to a deadbolt and automatically unlock the home’s occupants.
The doorbell is said to be in the early stages of development and won’t be on the market before the end of 2025 at the earliest. It may work with third-party locks that are compatible with Apple’s HomeKit, or Apple may run with a specific lock maker.
Bloomberg notes that while a FaceID-enabled smart doorbell will allow Apple to compete with products like Amazon Ring, it will also leave the brand vulnerable to new risks, especially if the system is blamed for home break-ins.
