Villach knife attack, leave a teenager and five wounded
A 14 -year -old boy was killed and five people were seriously injured in a knife attack in southern Austria.
The police said that the suspect was a 23 -year -old Syrian student who was detained at the scene of the accident, a town near the border with Italy and Slovenia.
A BBC News spokesman said that the police had not yet arisen, but they participated in extremism in the investigation.
The accident occurred at about 16:00 local time (15:00 GMT) near the city’s main square. Two of the five injured people were in serious condition from Saturday evening.
The police said the handover factor that led his car to the attacker helped prevent more injuries.
The driver – also a Syrian man – said he witnessed the attack while driving his car and destroyed the residential man.
The suspect was briefly arrested from police officers. As of Saturday evening, it was still being interrogated, the police said.
Some of the witnesses initially indicated that there was a potential second striker, which led to the police closed on the travel of the train in the wake of the direct attack.
However, the local police BBC News told that they were confident of only one involved.
Austrian law means that the attacker’s identity was not released, but the police confirmed that he was a 23 -year -old Syrian man who lived locally.
He had a temporary residence permit and was awaiting a decision regarding his asylum application.
The police initially said that four people were injured, but a fifth person later came with minor injuries.
The identity of a teenager who has been killed has not yet been revealed.
The attack comes amid national discussions on asylum laws and a political crisis after the elections last year, which witnessed the right -wing Freedom Party in the forefront for the first time.
However, it failed to form an alliance governmentAustria, Alexander Van der Beilin, weighs whether he would contact the sudden elections, form a minority government, invite other parties or a group of experts to try to form a administration.
Herbet Kickl, head of the Freedom Party, seized the Villach attack, saying in a statement that Austria needs a “strict campaign of asylum”.
Peter Kaiser of the Social Democratic Party on the left – the governor of Karenthia, described the region in which Villach is – the attack as “unimaginable atrocities.”
He said that the stab wounds should not lead to “hateful” reactions, while the government and the European Union urged the tightening of the asylum policy.
