Former Brazilian President Gere Bolsonaro accused the alleged coup plot
Former Brazilian President Gere Bolsonaro was accused of the country’s chief prosecutor of a coup after his defeat in the 2022 presidential elections.
The 69 -year -old has been handed over five charges about the alleged offer to prevent his successor, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, from taking office after the bitter election race.
The charges include allegations that Lula’s poisoning intends to shoot and shoot at the Dead Supreme Court judge Alexander de Murray.
Bolsonaro denies any violations and says he is a victim of political persecution.
The prosecutor’s advice will now be considered by the Supreme Court. If it is accepted, fees will be imposed on Bolsonaro and 33 others and they will have to face the trial.
The former president was prevented from running for eight years after being accused of undermining Brazilian democracy by claiming that the electronic countries used in the October 2022 poll were subject to piracy and fraud.
The elections, which fought bitterly, won a very narrow margin by President Luiz Insio Lula da Silva – more known as Lula.
Bolsonaro publicly did not recognize his defeat and left Brazil to the United States two days before Iqbal Lula as a president.
On January 8, 2023, his supporters stormed government buildings in the capital, Brazilia. Parts of the buildings were looted and the police arrested 1500 rioters.
Three months ago, Federal Police issued a report accusing Polsonaro of its role in planning and organizing a coup attempt – including by proposing the idea of the main figures in the army – to stop taking over without power.
The document accusing Bolsonaro says the responsibility of actions that were harmful to the democratic regime lies in a criminal organization led by Bolsonaro himself.
In practice, this means that legal procedures have started, and Bolsonaro is likely to face a trial.
One of the charges is the crime of the “Armed Criminal Organization”, which is allegedly led by Bolsonaro and his pioneering candidate Walter Braga Nito.
Public Prosecutor Paulo Gonet Branko said the alleged plot included a plan to poison Lula and shoot at the Supreme Supreme Court judge Alexander de Mora, one of the competitors of Bolsonaro.
He said, “Allied with other individuals, including civilians and military personnel, tried, in a coordinated manner, as a result of the 2022 presidential elections,” he said.
The Brazilian media reported that the Supreme Court is expected to file a trial later this year.
The reaction to the public prosecutor’s decision shows that the divisions that characterized the Brazilian policy over the past decade are still as deep as it was.
Government supporters celebrate and say that the former president belongs to prison, while the opposition insists that he is innocent.
The focus is now on the impact of the Supreme Court’s decision on the presidential elections for the next year. Recent opinion polls show the president’s rejection levels Lula.
Although it is banned from running for positions, Bolsonaro is still a strong political force in Brazil and can use the trial as a platform for his business schedule.
