At least 110 dies after heavy rains in Mokoa, Niger State
At least 110 people died in floods due to heavy rains in the center of Nigeria, officials told the BBC.
The head of the Niger Emergency Management Agency (Niger) said, Applehi Baba, I see him.
He added that “the growing flood water is immersed and washed more than 50 residential homes with its occupants” in the town of Mokwa.
The Nigerian government expressed its “deep sorrow” over the floods, with the Minister of Information and National Equipment, Mohamed Idris, saying that security and emergency agencies have been directed to help in the search and rescue process.
According to NSMA, it was the most areas of Tiffin Maza and Anguwan Hausawa in Mokwa are the most affected.
The head of the Moca Province, Mohamed Shab, Alio, said that he was “60 years” since society has suffered from this type of flood.
“I beg to the government to support us.”
The authorities say that the search and rescue process is still ongoing and many people are still in danger.
A local fisherman told Agence France Presse that he had left homeless.
“I have no house to sleep.” My home has already collapsed, “she said.
Nigeria often tests floods during the rainy season, which usually lasts from April to October.
The authorities have warned of heavy rains in at least 15 states from 36 states in the country.
Last year, many parts of northern Nigeria witnessed heavy rains and floods that caused deaths, displacement of people, and the destruction of homes and infrastructure.
The country also suffered from severe floods in 2022, forcing about 1.3 million people to get out of the homes and caused more than 600 deaths.
