The Israeli forces kill 51 Palestinians waiting for the flour at the relief site in Gaza, and the rescue witnesses and men say
Witnesses and rescuers say that the Israeli forces killed more than 51 Palestinians and were injured by many after the fire was opened near the relief distribution site in southern Gaza.
The Hamas Civil Defense Agency said that the Israeli forces fired crowds near the relief site in Khan Yunis. According to what was reported, more than 200 people were injured.
The Israeli army told the BBC that it was looking into reports.
It is the latest, which is likely to be more deadly, than the recent daily shootings that occurred near the first aid distribution sites in Gaza.
Almost all injuries in Gaza have been linked in recent days to the delivery of aid instead of Israeli strikes on Hamas’s goals.
Witnesses say that the Israeli forces opened fire and shortened an area near an intersection to East Khan Yunis, where thousands of Palestinians were gathering in the hope of obtaining flour from the World Food Program (WFP) site, which also includes a community kitchen nearby.
A local journalist and an eyewitness said that Israeli drones fired two missiles, followed by a short period of an Israeli tank that was placed between 400 and 500 meters from the crowd. The explosions caused many victims.
The crowd gathered near a major road that leads to the town of Bani Sohalela, an area that witnessed weeks of continuous Israeli military operations.
Nasser Hospital, the medical facility operating in the area, was flooded with the number of injuries. It is so overcrowded that many of the wounded are lying on the ground where the medical staff treats their injuries.
A video clip showing the direct effects of the accident and its participation on social media was identified by the BBC, verifying a site in Khan Yunis. Mahmoud Basal, a spokesman for the Civil Defense Agency in Gaza, told Bassel’s lawyer that at least 50 people were killed. “Israeli drones were fired at the citizens. After a few minutes, the Israeli tanks fired several shells at the citizens, which led to a large number of martyrs and wounded,” he said.
In a statement, the Israeli Defense Army said, “A gathering was identified next to the aid distribution truck that stumbled in the Khan Yunis area, and near the Israeli Defense Forces operating in the area,” the Israel Defense Army said.
She said that she was “familiar with reports related to a number of injured individuals from the Israeli Defense Army fire after the crowd’s approach” and the accident was under review.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has received reports on the incident of mass victims.
“This is again as a result of another food distribution initiative,” said Thanos Garghavanis, who surgeons and an emergency officer.
He added, “There is an ongoing relationship with the positions of the four declared food distribution sites and the accidents of the mass injured,” saying that shock injuries in recent days were mostly fiery wounds.
For weeks, the medical staff warned that Nasser Hospital could be mired and unable to continue working under multiple injuries, a lack of medical supplies and Israeli evacuation orders in the surrounding area.
In recent days, the hospital deals with a daily flow of losses from the shooting incidents near the relief distribution sites run by the Gaza Humanitarian Corporation (GHF) – with the support of Israel and the United States – in southern and central Gaza.
In almost all of these incidents, the witnesses said that the Israeli forces opened fire, although there were reports of the shooting of local armed militants on people.
Usually, the response from the Israeli Defense Army says that its forces warned people not to deal with them – then launched warning shots when the “suspects” of the IDF acted in a way that is considered a threat. The Israeli army provided a few details or no details after that.
Israel does not allow international news organizations, including the BBC in Gaza, making checking what is happening there is difficult.
GHF also responded to fire by saying that they should not be mentioned regarding their operations, because accidents occur out of their sites.
But there is no doubt that thousands of Palestinians will not be assembled in a desperate search for limited supplies of food in those areas if it is not the way in which the new distribution system was established.
The Israeli Defense Army also told the Palestinians not to go to the distribution sites between 18:00 and 06:00 local time. But in order to reach the sites and get a chance to get food, people have no little option.
The video verified from the GHF sites shows huge crowds of Palestinians accelerating to try to obtain food parcels without any clear control from the organization. It has already closed its sites for at least two occasions to try to improve security.
The other way to get help in Gaza – with about 100 trucks a day that Israel allowed – I also increased people trying to reach supplies, whether from distribution points or from the same aid convoy while traveling towards them.
It is a sign of a collapse in both security in Gaza and the same aid distribution system.
Hamas responded to another accident by describing the aid centers again as the traps of death.
The looting between the population is desperate for rare food supplies – with criminal gangs, militias and enthusiasm also works for their own ends – making the situation more risky.
Critics believe that GHF allows a plan from the Israeli government to remove the Palestinians in the south to smaller areas of Gaza. But Israel – which has long sought to remove the United Nations as a major humanitarian provider for the Palestinians – says that the alternative system was necessary to stop Hamas theft of aid.
On Monday, United Nations Human Rights Chief Volcker Turk said that Israel was registering weapons and called for a complete fire investigation.
“The tragedies of Gaza continues unabated while it turns attention to another place,” said President of UNRWA – the United Nations Refugee Agency – Philip Lazarini.
However, it seems that there is no plan from Israel, the Human Gaza Foundation or the international community to find a way to prevent the near daily killing of the Palestinians, because they take their lives in their hands to search for minimal supplies of food.
20 months have passed since Israel launched a military campaign in Gaza in response to an attack across the border led by Hamas on Israel on October 7, 2023, where about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others took hostage.
More than 55,297 people have been killed in Gaza since then, according to the Ministry of Health in the region.
