Some of those who fled next to him still dream of returning home to Tibet.

“My belief is that I will return to Tibet. If it is not, you will return the younger generations,” said Lubanang Shudon, 84, who attended Monday’s celebrations.

Shuudon’s daughter and her grandchildren were born – and spent their entire lives – in India. However, her 15 -year -old Ngawang Lhundup grandson feels deeply associated with his grandparents.

He has been listening to stories about Tibet since he was a child and said he would think about visiting Tibet, even though she was under Chinese rule.

“But if it is free from the Chinese invasion, I will be pleased to return to Tibet.”
