Benavidez demands a clean fight with Morel

David Benavidez says David Morell was complaining about being drug tested at their fight on February 1st, and believes he doesn’t want to be tested by VADA.

Interim WBA light heavyweight champion Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) is suspicious, saying WBA “regular” champion Morrell (11-0, 9 KOs) might be worried “something might happen” in one of his tests.

Some fans see Benavidez’s complaints as early foundation building for PED excuse Early on to blame the potential loss of Morel on possible steroid use.

“I’m not saying he’s doping or anything like that, but once you’re not trying to do a VADA test, it’s kind of weird. He also says he’s a lab rat because he’s being tested. That’s what it is. This is clean boxing. We’re doing VADA every week or every two weeks.

It would be best if Benavidez didn’t discuss PED issues before the fight because it seems as if he’s already planning on having an alibi if things don’t go his way in the fight with Morel.

“If you don’t like it, you’re probably doing something, or maybe you’re a little bit concerned that something might happen with these VADA tests,” Benavidez said. For me, I’ve been tested more than anyone else at VADA, and those are facts. I’ve been tested over 30 times, and have never complained. I never said I was a lab rat.

“This guy [Morrell] He’s barely been tested three times, and he says it’s a lab rat. Go look at the fights and look at the people accusing him. Me, I’ve never been accused of taking steroids. Then when you watch the press conference, as soon as I said, “Steroids, you guys didn’t want to test,” that’s when Louis Dekobas got up and started talking***. Then they walked away.

“So, I don’t know. You guys be the judge of that. I point things out, but you guys won’t play me like I’m an idiot. If there are VADA tests, let’s do it, let’s have clean boxing,” Benavidez said.
