Morel teaches Cuban to overthrow Benavidez
Former three-time cruiserweight champion Meres Briedis predicts that Cuban David Morell’s education as a boxer since childhood will lead to his victory over David Benavidez on February 1st.
Benavidez She wouldn’t be able to bully Muriel As he did when he fought against younger, weaker and older fighters when he competed at 168 years old. Morell is the same size, younger, stronger and won’t be bullied the way fighters at super middleweight have been beaten by Benavidez.
“The Mexican Monster” Benavidez was viewed by fans as a bully at the weight all those years, gaming the system by melting down to compete against smaller fighters in a division below his massive light heavyweight/cruiserweight frame.
Benavidez did not look like the same fighter in his last fight when he moved to 175 against Oleksandr Gvozdyk on June 15.
Can Morell shock the world?
Briedis says “everyone” believes interim WBC lightweight champion Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) will defeat Morell (11-0, 9 KOs), but he feels his Cuban background will be too much for “The Mexican Monster.” in their headlining event at T-Mobile Arena.
Morell can fight from the outside, throw hard, and fight from the inside, Myres says. He saw all the fighting styles during his years in Cuba on the national team. So, what Benavidez brings to the table in this fight will not be new to him.
Morel has arguably fought better fighters than Benavidez in Cuba, where he faced the two-time Olympic gold medalist Julio Cesar La Cruz. This fighter would be a nightmare for Benavidez given his size, strength and technical skills.
Politics in the ring?
One of the questions that has been asked regarding the Benavidez and Morel fight is the arbitration. As Briedis points out, Benavidez is from the United States, while Morell is from Cuba. He mentions politics. If the fight ends, will the decision be awarded to the most popular fighter, Benavidez, who has a huge fan base in the United States, even if he appears to be losing?
In Benavidez’s last match in Las Vegas against Ukrainian Oleksandr Gvozdyk last June, he won a wide unanimous decision in 12 rounds in a match that seemed very close. Gvozdyk appeared to win five to six rounds in that fight, but the Nevada judges scored it in favor of Benavidez with this lopsided set of scores: 116-112, 117-111, and 119-109.
I watched the fight and the score was 114-114. Benavidez appeared to lose one of the first six rounds, then the final five, as Gvozdyk appeared strong with powerful punches against the exhausted “Mexican monster”. So, if the fight between Benavidez and Morel moves to the results books, will Morel get similar treatment? Does he need a knockout to beat Benavidez, famous for his huge fan base in Nevada and the crowd at his side at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas?
Cuban education
“Everyone thinks Benavidez will win by TKO, but I think Morel comes from Cuba and Cuba are very strong boxers. It’s a national sport of boxing,” said Maires Briedes. YouTube A channel analyzing the match between David Benavidez and David Murrell on February 1st.
“Morrell is a very smart guy, young, and he can fight over long distances or like a puncher. These are two punchers that meet in the ring. My expectations, I think Morel. They show something new for Benavidez. Speed, powerful punches and some interesting Cuban techniques.”
“My prediction is that Morell will win by unanimous decision. Benavidez has fought stronger opponents than Morell. I mean Morell has not fought very strong guys. I hope Morell will win by unanimous decision.
In the United States, there are some small policies. Why because [Benavidez] He comes from the USA, and his fans come from the USA. Morel is a Cuban man, and what they have been doing since childhood is boxing.”
Morell has been fighting since he was a child in Cuba against better fighters than Benavidez. He’s also lived a harder life than Benavidez. His upbringing, coupled with his superior speed, strength, athletic ability, and technical skills, give him a tremendous advantage in this battle.
“winner [of Benavidez vs. Morrell] He will fight against Beterbiev or Bivol. “The Benavidez-Muriel fight will be very tough, and the next step is the toughest fight against Beterbiev or Bivol,” Briedis said.
