Reaction of Gazans and Israelis to the ceasefire and hostage release agreement

Israel and Hamas reached a ceasefire and hostage release agreement, starting on January 19.

The long-awaited agreement aims to end the 15-month-old war.

Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing about 1,200 people and kidnapping 251, returning them to Gaza as hostages.

The attack led to a large-scale Israeli assault on Gaza, during which more than 46,000 Palestinians were killed, according to the Hamas-run Ministry of Health.
