During the 100th episode of the couple’s program “Unplanned Podcastreleased on Wednesday, January 8, the pair discussed a viral clip from the infamous May 2024 episode of the podcast in which Matt, 26, claimed he wouldn’t celebrate Father’s Day until December of that year because their June 2023 celebration was “problematic.” (The couple has two sons, Griffin, 2, and August, 1.)
Abby, 25, began revisiting the couple for the clip, which attracted more than 9.4 million views and a torrent of criticism. “Matt’s epic birthday on Father’s Day. That was an unforgettable moment of [the] Unplanned Podcast 2024. How would you rate that moment.. one out of 10? “You have to include the emotional trauma,” Abby asks Matt in the new episode.
“Oh my god, I can laugh about that now,” Matt replied [but] At the time I was terrified. I think it’s funny now, I think that’s so stupid. The words I said… were also very stupid, and I obviously didn’t look good at all.
He continued: “She seemed very selfish. I looked full of myself.
Despite Matt’s apparent remorse, Abby said she thought it was “kind of funny in hindsight,” before adding that she hadn’t watched the controversial clip and, as a result, didn’t know how Matt appeared at the time.
“Overall, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with…the controversy, but I didn’t watch the clip and maybe the clip made it look really bad,” Abby admitted. “In this case, that’s on us. I think we had this coming.”
At the time, Abby, who was pregnant with the couple’s second child, revealed how she combined her husband’s birthday with Father’s Day in 2023 because the two events fell on the same day. The couple had just returned from their babymoon and Matt admitted the family had been very busy at the time.

It was so much better for everyone!”
